EFL Iraqi learners' recognition and production of stative verbs
Abstract
Stative verbs are often used to refer to a type of state rather than an action. Essentially, these verbs are manipulated to reflect views, sentiments, relations, senses, conditions of being and dimensions. Yet, they do not typically come in the progressive aspect though they may undertake temporal expressions such as at the moment, now. This is perhaps the reason behind Iraqi EFL College students' failure to identify and use these verbs in contexts. Thus, this paper tends to investigate the difficulty that Iraqi EFL college students encounter in handling these verbs. A test of two questions (recognition and production) is designed to be administered to a sample of 60 2nd Year students at Mustansiriyah University, College of Arts, Department of English and. Responses to the two questions have been collected and data and results analysis has been conducted.
