IRJMIS in brief

Open Access (OA) in the IRJMIS work is licensed under a  Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. The number of freely accessible articles and, in particular, digital collections in the IRJMIS is steadily increasing. However, when it comes to OA for monographs and edited volumes, there is still room for improvement. Besides publications, sources, especially in digitized form, are of great importance in the IRJMIS. The publication platform for IRJMIS is Open Journal System since 2014 to present.

Copyright History

Since its inception in 2014, IRJMIS’s aim was to follow open access principles, to ensure that no charges be levied upon readers or educational institutions by royalty or copyright fee collection agencies, or by database vendors, for reader access to IRJMIS’s online, free to the Internet articles.

In December 2019 the IRJMIS Management Committee changed the copyright statement to take effect from the first issue of Volume 7.

Prior to Volume 7 the following was the copyright statement:

Copyright in individual articles contained in IRJMIS was vested in each of the authors in respect of his or her contributions. Copyright in IRJMIS is vested in SLOAP. No part of IRJMIS (other than single copies for private study purposes) may be reprinted or reproduced without permission from the publishers, except that authors (or an author's employer at the time of publication) may make multiple printed copies and public website or institutional repository copies of their own articles (subject to identifying each copy as an article which was published originally in IRJMIS).

This key part of this statement indicates that IRJMIS does not compel authors to transfer copyright to IRJMIS, although copyright in the compilation of articles in each issue and volume belongs to IRJMIS. The phrase "Copyright... is vested in each of the authors..." should be interpreted to include cases in which an author's employer is the copyright owner.

However, IRJMIS’s Management Committee reserved the right to approve requests for the making of copies for non-profit educational purposes. Authors should note that requests for copyright permission are infrequent, owing to IRJMIS’s policy of open access. Any copies that are made, either in print or on a website, whether by the authors or by other persons, must be identified as having been published in IRJMIS.

IRJMIS’s Management Committee reserved the right to make agreements with the publishers of database products and indexing and abstracting journals to include IRJMIS content and to receive electronic copies of IRJMIS content for these purposes. These agreements do not affect the authors' retention of copyright or the open access status of IRJMIS content.
